Description

I've seen this phrase "Music equals life" lots of times. Music is not for everyone important, but for me it certainly is. One of the reasons is because it's one of my biggest inspiriations, so I decided to draw this and show what my view is on the phrase "music equals life".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
No reference was used for the face
I used my own headphones as base and also used some google images as base for the guitar, microphone and speaker. Meaning not copies but used as a guide. I didn't use a reference for the hair either so it's not that good :P I finished it in one day working on and off. I guess this is a quick one? for me it is, considiring I'm slow like a snail

Those notes are actually from a real song. The song is called Via Purifico. A beautiful song and I'm trying to play it on the piano now :dummy:

Also, I hate my scanner

The first thing that strikes me about this piece is how well you've rendered everything - very well done there! I like that you've chosen to have the musical instruments plugged into the girl too, and that the EEG is coming from the headphones - those are really strong ideas but I might push them even further. You've got an amazing gallery of faces so what made you choose to have only half her face? I know you've said it was sort of a quick work and that's fine, just don't give up on the idea yet! If you prefer sketching well-known artists, consider doing this to them - have Lady Gaga wired up to an amp or something. Maybe you could have people behind her playing instruments plugged into her (her corporate label or whatever), or her instruments plugged into her "little monsters" (she's playing them while they play her). Being "plugged in" can mean huge things these days and I would encourage you to run with it.

For the title, "Music equals life", this piece expresses that idea well. What if you had the girl lying in a hospital bed with musical notes in her IV drip and all the musical equipment surrounding her bed? Her charts could be sheet music and such. Maybe instead of the EEG use an oscilloscope? Lady Gaga could work well here also since she has that intro to Marry the Night. Just some thoughts that come to mind. I enjoy that you've used actual music instead of just making something up - that's always a really neat addition. Consider writing the music of a heartbeat maybe? Again - just some thoughts.

You speak really well about your work too and that's a -huge- part of being an artist (in my opinion). I would encourage you to continue in this direction and really push the theme even more. As it stands, the composition is pretty well divided between left and right - consider blending the sides like what you've done with the hair/notes. Use an open eye(s) and put something in them (maybe the speaker dish). Use the microphone for teeth lines. Have an X-ray of her femur look like the mic stand - stuff like that. The pencil work is superb and the way the negative space happens in-between the hair is really great. It's definitely my favorite part and keeps the eye moving.

Excellent work and I look forward to more! Well done!
